Sony has started rolling out its latest “User Experience” upgrade for the Xperia Z2 and Z2 Tablet based on Android 4.4.4 KitKat. The update brings with it a number of new features and enhancements as already seen on the company’s latest flagship — the Xperia Z3.  The update will bring the much touted PS4 Remote Play feature to both devices. The feature will allow Xperia Z2 and Z2 Tablet owners to stream games from their PlayStation 4 via Wi-Fi and play them using the Dualshock 4 wireless controller. Additionally, Z2 owners will get to enjoy native Hi-Res Audio on their device with support for both PCM and DSD files. The devices already support USB Hi-Res playback but this update enables Hi-Res audio playback for the 3.5mm audio jack as well. The Walkman app will also be updated to add support for the company’s DSEE HX technology that automatically enhances the “sound of your MP3, AAC or Music Unlimited tunes, restoring the experience sometimes lost in compression by these formats.” The Smart Social camera of Sony is also getting an update and will now feature new Xperia camera apps like Sound Photo, AR Fun, Multi Camera and Face In. Sony is also improving the already excellent battery life of the Xperia Z2 by introducing Ultra Stamina mode, under which the phone should last more than a week on standby. Other notable new features included in the update are new Quick Settings, Smart screen rotation, a Record screen shortcut in the Power menu, support for Sony’s new wearables and Proximity unlock that works with any Bluetooth enabled accessory. While Sony says that it has started rolling out the update from today itself, the roll-out will still take a few weeks to complete. Head over to Sony’s announcement post for the full change-log of the update.
