The Lady and the Tramp 2019 soundtrack includes updated versions of songs from the original 1955 Disney classic, along with one significant revision. Directed by Charlie Bean, the live-action Disney+ launch film features a score by American composer Joseph Trapanese and various performance numbers from the main cast.
In Lady and the Tramp 2019, Tessa Thompson and Justin Theroux voice Lady and Tramp, respectively. The female cocker spaniel worries about her place in the home of Darling Dear (Kiersey Clemons) and Jim Dear (Thomas Bank), but only after her schnauzer-mutt friend implies that “when the baby moves in, the dog moves out.” Lady and the Tramp 2019 recreates moments from the original Disney film as the title characters try to avoid being locked up in the dog pound. The Disney+ adaptation was written by Andrew Bujalski and Kari Granlund.
The focal dogs’ need for love sets the tone for the narrative conflict in Lady and the Tramp 2019, and the soundtrack complements their inner emotions. And while the main songs are similar to the original film, one particular number was replaced entirely because of its racial undertones. Here are the main songs featured in Lady and the Tramp 2019 on Disney+.
“Main Title (Bella Notte)” - Written by Sonny Burke and Peggy Lee
“Peace on Earth” - Donald Novis
“La La Lu” - Kiersey Clemons
“What a Shame" - Nate “Rocket” Wonder and Roman GianArthur
“You Made Me Love You” - Written by Joseph McCarthy and James Monaco
“Bella Notte” - Disney Studio Chorus
“Bella Notte” - F. Murray Abraham and Arturo Castro
“He’s a Tramp 2019” - Janelle Monáe
“Peace on Earth” - Kiersey Clemons
When Darling Dear gives birth in Lady and the Tramp 2019, she sings “La La Lu” (originally performed by Peggy Lee) as Lady contemplates her uncertain future. After the arrival of Aunt Sarah (Yvette Nicole Brown), Lady encounters the cats Rex and Devon, who sing a jazzy version of “What a Shame” - a replacement song for the original “The Siamese Cat Song” performance number that was criticized for its racial stereotypes.
“Bella Notte” is performed once Lady and Tramp have a proper candle-lit dinner at Tony’s restaurant and slurp spaghetti together (a recreation of a famous scene). Later, when Lady winds up at the dog pound, she’s educated about life by a street-smart Pekingese named Peg (Janelle Monáe), who delivers a show-stopping performance of “He’s a Tramp,” a song that that’s all about the unique personality traits of Lady’s new Schnauzer pal.
Lady in the Tramp 2019 concludes with the title characters sharing a home together, scored by a performance of “Peace on Earth” by Kiersey Clemons.
