Kris Jenner, of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, addresses the rumors about an O.J. Simpson affair that surfaced around the 25th anniversary of Nicole Brown Simpson’s death. Jenner opened up about not only the rumors, but her feelings facing the anniversary of the devastating murders on the Sunday, November 3 episode of the show.
The Kardashian family has long had a complicated involvement with both of the victims of the gruesome murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman that took place on June 12, 1994, as well as with the accused killer. The Keeping Up with the Kardashians matriarch, a long-time close friend of Nicole who was even said to have had lunch plans with her the day after her death, was grieving the loss of her friend. Meanwhile, her ex-husband Robert Kardashian was a part of the legal team defending O.J. Simpson who was accused of the brutal double homicide. Not only were Robert and O.J. good friend, but Simpson was close to the entire Kardashian family, leaving Kris and Robert on somewhat opposite sides of the situation and the girls somewhat in the middle. Kris has spoken out in the past about the guilt she felt and the complications of the aftermath. Over the years, various members of the family have spoken about the murders and the trial publicly, but there has been renewed interest in the topic following the true-crime anthology American Crime Story, which covered the trial of O.J. Simpson in season 1.
Despite this renewed interest following the 2016 tv series and the 25th anniversary of the homicides, the rumors of an affair between Nicole Brown Simpson’s friend and the man who was tried and later acquitted of her murder, and the graphic sexual nature of those rumors, still caught most off guard. As reported by Us Weekly, the rumors were perpetrated by Norman Pardo, Simpson’s former manager, who not only alleged a sexual relationship between Kris and O.J., but went so far as to suggest the encounter and O.J.’s “manhood” left Kris injured, requiring hospitalization. Kris vehemently denied any that there was any validity to the rumors. When Kim read this to Kris, she responded, “That never happened. … That fcking piece of sht.” Kris added, “On the anniversary of Nicole’s death, it’s so tasteless and disgusting … It’s just lie after lie after lie after lie.”
It took several days for Simpson himself to address the rumors, but when he finally did via a video posted to Twitter, he backed up Kris’ claim that the affair never happened. In the video, the former running back says, “Never - and I want to stress never, in any shape or form - did I ever have any interest in Kris, romantically or sexually.” Kris, who was relieved by this post, expressed that this should put the matter to rest. She chose to focus on celebrating Nicole’s life as she attended a luncheon with Faye Resnick, another close friend of Nicole’s, as they remembered and missed their late friend.
While the violent tragedy has taken its toll on everyone connected with the victims, none more than their families, the Keeping Up with the Kardashians’ matriarch has tried to help use the publicity surrounding it to focus on issues related to domestic violence. Jenner has expressed her feelings of guilt at missing the signs of what her friend was going through. With five daughters of her own, it is easy to understand why her desire to draw attention to domestic violence goes beyond this one case. It’s nice to be reminded that - beyond the salacious tabloid gossip surrounding the case of a very real woman who could have been helped - maybe the good that can come of it all is awareness and action that can help others in her situation.
